Dear Friends, With gratitude to God, I am sending you the announcement of the appointment of our new bishop. I ask you to welcome him and to keep him in your prayers as we prepare for his episcopal ordination and installation as our eighth bishop. Sincerely yours in Christ, +Arthur J. Serratelli Apostolic Administrator
I come to you hoping that you would join us in re-establishing the significant role St. Anthony’s has played in Passaic’s past. Second and third generations of Italian-Americans in the New York/New Jersey area, have achieved great success. St. Anthony of Padua played no small role in the education and acculturation of their forebears, last century’s immigrants. We truly believe that we can advance the cause of this century’s immigrant worker just as well. But we need help.
In the Gospel of these past Sundays (MT 13), Jesus has taught us about the kingdom of Heaven. Something very interesting in the teaching of Jesus is that it does not give us the exact description of heaven, but He does invite us with great insistence to be part of it.
Today’s Gospel is a wonderful example of the importance of informed decisions and judicious action. The master in the parable is a fine steward of his land, his household, and the people, who are dependent on him. Jesus gives this situation as an example of the way we should take care of our faith community and our lives. Gather knowledge, wait for the appropriate moment, and most importantly, ask for the instructions of the Master. The Master sees the good of the whole.
It is great to know that many people joined to the workshops of the “V Encuentro” (5th Encounter) that has been celebrated in our parish since the day of the feast of our patron Saint, St. Anthony of Padua. I am sure that many of you had no clear knowledge about what was in store for those who came; but we removed the blindfold to our date with the Lord the first day, to learn and feel what Jesus has always tried to tell us.
To our new Pastor, Fr. Hernan Cely, Welcome to the Saint Anthony of Padua Community! We are delighted to have you as our Pastor. At Saint Anthony of Padua Parish, we are a diverse church, looking for a true and concrete encounter with the person of Jesus Christ through our community life. Over our community experience, we strive to strengthen prayer life, evangelization, service and generosity in every member of this vibrant community. Working together, we seek to grow as strong disciples of the Lord where all feel welcome and inspired by the Gospel to live God’s mission with faith, hope and love.
